You lost a game on chess.com, it still bothers you, and there is no good way to understand where it fell apart: an engine will tell you the move was inaccurate, but not why you played it or what you were supposed to see. Now you can bring that game here — paste the PGN in your account and have our coach review it. No replaying, no reconstructing from memory.
Three steps
- Copy the PGN of the game on the site where you played it.
- In your account find the "A game from another site" block and press Import.
- Paste the text (or pick a file), tell us which side you played if we cannot tell, and press Review.
What opens next is the ordinary review screen — exactly the one used for games played here.
Where to get the PGN
- chess.com: on the game page press Share → the PGN tab → copy the text.
- lichess: the PGN button under the game, or the
lichess.org/game.pgnlink. - An "export all my games" file works too — we take the first game in it.
We detect your side from the nicknames in the PGN headers. If none of them matches your profile, we ask instead of guessing: the whole review depends on which side is yours.
What you get
The difference from "just an engine" is that the review covers your side only. On every move of yours the board shows two arrows:
- red — the move you played;
- green — the move you should have played.
Plus everything the normal review has: the evaluation and its graph, game accuracy as a percentage, marks next to weak moves in the list, and the threats, pins and poisoned pieces for the position you are currently looking at.
The review is computed when you open the game and takes a few seconds — you can see how many moves are done. After that the game opens instantly.
Why only your moves
Because studying someone else's mistakes teaches you nothing. Show the best move for both sides and the screen turns into a stream of arrows that drowns the only useful question: what should I have seen and did not. We still evaluate the opponent's moves — the evaluation needs them — but we do not play coach for them on the board.
What we cannot do yet
An honest list, so you do not waste time:
- standard chess only — Chess960 and other variants are rejected;
- games starting from a custom position (a FEN tag) are not imported yet;
- from a file with a hundred games only the first one is taken for now — one game at a time.
In each of those cases you get a clear message rather than a silent failure.
What comes next: bulk import
One PGN at a time is a start, not the ceiling. We want to take your entire history at once: an export file with hundreds of games, reviewed in a single pass.
The interesting part is not the volume but what comes out of it. A hundred of your games show what a single game cannot: which openings keep landing you in bad positions, around which move your play usually collapses, which tactical motifs you miss again and again, how accuracy drops as you get tired. That turns into a study plan built for you — not "solve puzzles", but "here are the three holes costing you rating, and here is how to close them".
We are working towards it. For now it is one game at a time — and that is already enough to start.
Small things worth knowing
- Importing the same game twice does not create copies — the existing one is updated.
- Picked the wrong side? Import again with the side set explicitly: the game will not be duplicated, and the review is recomputed — it had been calculated about the wrong moves.
- The game keeps the date from the PGN, so it lands where you expect it in the list.
Why this matters
The point is not to move your game history from one site to another. The point is that the games worth reviewing are the ones you actually care about — yesterday's blitz where you dropped a rook, not an abstract position from a textbook. You no longer have to play here for that: play where you are used to, and bring the games here to review.
